Elements in The Stars

This is the project to coincide with our Atomic structure and radioactivity unit. In this project, we identify solar bodies and their chemical components. Much like Earth itself, all solar bodies contain elements such as Carbon, Nitrogen and Oxygen. This project also relates to chemistry because stars go through radioactive decay and fusion to create energy. We learned about all those topics in this unit and by identifying and exploring these processes in the real world we have a better understanding of the topic. Stars also produce types of radiation (for example, the sun produces UV radiation that is dangerous to us) so by learning about these stars, we can also learn about these types of radiation and their effect. Therefore, this project relates to our chemistry class because stars have chemical properties and go through chemical processes including the way they produce their energy.
